LINEDANCING MONDAYS 14.30 TO 15.30

Jean and Mike joined a beginner’s Line Dance class in Blandford a few months before the first Covid lockdown. I got a list of some of the dances from Caroline, our teacher.
During lockdown we re-arranged the lounge so we could do line dancing, most played using YouTube. After lockdown the beginner’s class didn’t re-start but we were allowed to join the improver’s class. It was hard work but fun.
Later we were sent texts, like many others, from Milton Abbas Surgery asking if we could run events that would help people get out and about.
We thought that even though we had limited experience if we were to teach absolute beginners, we would know a little more than them so started the classes at Winterborne Whitechurch Village Hall.
It took quite a few months before it got going but has been running quite well, hall rental is paid for by the NHS and entry is free but we ask for donations to help cover the cost, but no more than £5 each. Our dancers have settled on £2 each as it’s good value and typically covers the costs so that works out well. All the money gets sent to Milton Abass Surgery.
We later started teaching Beginner’s Line dancing in Blandford for £5 per session.
We do Tuesday evenings, 7:30 until 8:30 at the Knees-Up Hall which is behind the Original Factory Store in East Street.
Also Wednesday evenings, from 7:30 until 8:30 at the Upstairs Room, above the reception, at The Blandford School. Best for drivers to use the entrance near the Milldown track, Milldown Rd, and follow for reception.
Leather soled flat shoes are the best, but casual trainers with composite soles are OK. Avoid serious trainers & high heels as they won’t let you spin/turn easily.
Search for “Blandford Linedance” to get links to our Facebook page and also a 1990’s style summary and list of dances we do with YouTube links.
Just so you know, the other profits go to All Saints Church in Langton Long.
Kurling - Thursday 10.00am -12.00pm

Looking for a burst of laughter, friendly competition, and a game that truly anyone can enjoy? Our kurling group is just the place! Born from the hall committee’s spark of creativity after lockdown, when it could no longer be run by the committee, we took it on as an independent group, and we've transformed it into a lively, independent gathering—perfect for all ages and abilities. No bending required—just grab a pushing pole and send those wheeled stones gliding across the floor! We play in two teams, going head-to-head in exciting rounds to see who can rack up the highest score. Halfway through, we press pause for some cheerful refreshments—an excellent chance for a good natter and some light-hearted banter. Join us every Thursday from 10:00 to 12:00. It’s only £3.00 to play and £1.00 if you fancy refreshments. Expect plenty of chatter, giggles, and some spirited rivalry—so why not come along, have a go, and discover just how much fun kurling can be? Teresa Goddard
ZUMBA
MONDAY - 19.00 TO 20.00
TUESDAY -18.00 TO 19.00 AND 19.00 TO 20.00
THURSDAY 14.00 TO 15.00 THEN TONING 18.00 TO 19.00 AND 19.00 TO 20.00
I've been spreading the Zumba magic for 13 years (soon to be 14 come April!)—it all began when I took a class at the gym, instantly fell in love, and never looked back. Dance has always been a huge part of my life—I took my first steps on the dance floor at just age 3. Now, getting to call it my career feels like living in a dream!
Dancing isn’t just a fantastic workout for the body—it’s a tonic for the mind, too.
Zumba is simply electric: in just one hour, you’re swept into a whirlwind of vibrant tunes and exhilarating Latin rhythms, all set to an infectious beat. The energy in the room is contagious; you can’t help but smile, laugh, and let loose, no matter your dance skills. It’s never about perfecting the moves—it’s about moving to the music, having a blast, and leaving your worries at the door for an hour!
Zumba Toning takes things up a notch with the same brilliant soundtrack, but we add maraca-style weights for a cheeky bit of muscle sculpting—think shimmying and shaping, all at once!
Prefer to take it easy?
Zumba Gold is the low-impact option—no jumping about, but still packed with all the lively tunes and Latin flair that make Zumba such a joy. Whether you’re shaking, wiggling, or grooving, there’s nothing quite like the Zumba buzz. Come along and join the party!
